Retire — Ubuntu 18.04 is EOL and this guide documents an outdated Drupal 8 update workflow using deprecated Drush 8 commands. The update methodology is no longer recommended and does not reflect modern Composer based update practices used in Drupal 10/11. It depends on other obsolete Ubuntu 18.04 guides and would require a complete rewrite for current workflows. Replacement content is needed for Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, Debian 12, and Rocky/AlmaLinux 9.
Related work: PR #7338 introduces a new Drupal 11 installation guide. While it does not replace this update guide, it provides the correct starting point for fresh installations. Users upgrading from Drupal 8 should follow Drupal’s official migration documentation.
